Do I need a VPN in Hangzhou?

Landing: Xiaoshan (HGH) or the train from Shanghai
Xiaoshan airport has free SMS-gated wifi and the firewall is live on it; Metro Lines 1 and 7 reach the center and take Alipay's transit code. Most foreign visitors arrive by rail instead: Shanghai Hongqiao to Hangzhou East is about 45 minutes, with trains every few minutes through the day, bookable on Trip.com or 12306 with a passport. China Mobile and China Unicom stores around Wulin Square and Longxiangqiao register foreigners with a passport in twenty minutes.
